HDMI over Fiber Extender

HDMI over Fiber Extender – HDMI Extension

HDMI Cables Length Limits, DVI Cable Distance Limitations

HDMI Cables Length Limits

There’s no official length limit for HDMI cables, but 6 meters (about 20 feet) seems to be the accepted limit on common HDMI cables. Although the HDMI spec gives no length limit  explicitly, the requirements of the spec implicitly give rise to some length limitations for “compliant” cables. A cable isn’t permitted to degrade the signal past a certain point. An HDMI  cable is deemed spec compliant if it meets either one of two tests: an “eye-pattern” test which measures the overall shape of the HDMI waveform at the cable end, or a set of parametric tests  which measure the attenuation and other losses in the signal.  As a result, the maximum cable length is very much dependent cable design. Some of the longest HDMI cables, certified  compliant by official HDMI Authorized Testing Centers go as far as 40 feet.

For really long cable runs, extender devices transmit HDMI or component-video over Cat-5 or fiber-optic cable. Some of the best-price-high-quality HDMI extenders come from Lindy.

Fiber Optic HDMI over Fiber Extender, 300m (Full HD 1080p)

The Fiber Optic HDMI Extender is the most cost effective, high performance solution on the market for sending HDMI signals over incredible distances. Using a single standard SC  duplex multimode (50/125µ) fiber optic cable to make the long distance connection, the HDMI Extender provides full support for HD 1080p, HDCP, multi channel audio, CEC and IR remote  control. No additional Ethernet patch cables are required for DDC and remote control.

Extends HDMI signals at distances of up to 300m using a single SC duplex  multimode fiber cable

Compatible with HDMI 1.3b spec, HDCP, multi channel audio, DDC, CEC and remote  control*

Supports all HDTV resolutions up to 1600p including 1080i, 1080p and 1440p

Supports HDMI 1.3 deep color modes with 30/36/48 bit color depth

7.8Gbps Total Bandwidth over Single 2-core Fiber Optic Cable Link

More on distance limitations & DVI Cable Distance Limitations

With standard DVI cables you can extend the distance for digital monitors, with fixed cables and connections, by up to 7.5m. For distances greater than 7.5m, special low attenuation  cables are recommended to provide satisfactory results. For optimum performance, at distances from 7.5m up to 25m, we recommend you use LINDY Super Long Distance DVI  Cables or LINDY Premium Gold Super Long Distance DVI cables. For distances over 25m you can use either a DVI Repeater / Extender solution, or LINDY Fiber Optic DVI Cables.
